Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90's when the buzz spread through folk clubs of the Northeast about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking them dead at open mics. A Philadelphia-area born and raised performer, audiences are sure to enjoy Gilbert's combination of humor, virtuosity, and the unexpected.

Show Location: Stroede Center for the Arts
Hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the “ideal musician of the 21st Century,” Mike Block is a pioneering multi-style cellist, composer, and educator living in Boston. While studying at the Juilliard School, Block joined Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, and shortly thereafter also joined Mark O’Connor’s Appalachia Waltz Trio, in which he played for over three years. Block has also performed with will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, Allison Krauss and Lenny Kravitz, and regularly subbed as the on-stage cellist in the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical Next to Normal.

The Tuxedo Junction Dance Orchestra is the real deal, a 3214 big band. This is the format that dominated the band scene throughout the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Tuxedo Junction recaptures the scores, instrumentation and feeling of the big band era performing hits from a play list that includes The lonious Monk, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, and Miles Davis.

Show Location: Stroede Center for the Arts
The Christian Communications Institute of Payap University in Chaing Mia, Thailand will present a 90-minute program of Thai Dance, culture and music, culminating in the presentation of a Thai Likay folk drama with a Christian (usually a parable) focus. A donation of $5 per individual and $10 per family will be accepted to support the work of this group. Tickets can be purchased at the Defiance Public Library, the DDVB office and Kissner's Restaurant beginning in March.

Over 60 Arts and Craft Vendors line the sidewalks of Downtown Defiance every year for the Defiance Lilac Festival! The Festival will be kicked off at 10:00am with the Power of Purple Parade sponsored by the American Cancer Society. After the parade, enjoy a great day of events with fine arts, crafts and food vendors.
As in years past, there will be live entertainment for all to enjoy, children will also have activities throughout the day. Food vendors will be available with a variety of items as well. Local nurseries will also have plants for sale just in time for Mother’s Day.
For those who were not aware of why we do the Lilac Festival, here is a bit of history. In the 1920’s Mayor Ed Bronson, also president of the Defiance Garden Club, declared the Lilac as the city flower. He encouraged the Defiance community to plant lilacs as a celebration. On April 21st, 1937, Mayor Joe C. Krutsch made a City resolution declaring the Lilac as the official flower of the City of Defiance.

Help us welcome Santa to the corner of Clinton and First Street in the Downtown. Each year during December as holiday decorations are being installed, Santa’s House arrives for him to visit with the young at heart during the Holiday Season. An old trolley car carries Santa into the downtown and is available for rides the remainder of the evening. Refreshments and carolers round out this holiday event.
Santa will arrive at 4pm by trolley to the Downtown. There will be activities throughout the Downtown in each block for kids from 4pm-7pm. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be down at their house to greet children from 7pm to 9pm. Merchants and Restaurants will be open late for all you’re shopping and dining pleasures.
